Football season has started!

College Football: So the season has stared (finally!) And the Hokies beat the Fighting Compasses of Northeastern, though not all I-A (or even ACC Coastal) teams weren't so fortunate. Duke lost to Richmond. Colorado lost to Montana State. Fine, Duke lost. I can understand this. They suck. But Colorado? So much for the Hawkins era. Bad start, anyhow. And New Mexico lost to Portland State. So much for the "guarantee game". And parity seems to be on us more than ever.

But back to Virginia Tech. The Hokies hammered Northeastern, with new quarterback Sean Glennon looking good in the process (15-18, approx. 225 yds; I forget the exact number & am too lazy to look). 38-0. A I-AA team that was 2-9 last year. A top-20 team. Nothing further needs to be said, does it?

This week: at North Carolina. That's right, kiddies. The team that lost at home to Rutgers last weekend gets to host Rutgers' old conference rival Va Tech. Hee hee hee! I'd laugh my ass off, but Carolina is bound to have a few surprises. Hopefully Beamer's getting that through the team's head. Nothing like an early loss to an inferior team to wreck a season. Beamer could ask North Carolina about that. At least Beamer doesn't have to worry about the team looking ahead to next week (that would be against Duke, at Lane). Tech rolls, 24-7.

So here's my next question: is Miami's season wrecked? They lose by 3 to a top-10 team, and it's "I hope the fans don't give up on the season" and angrily closing the locker room to reporters less than 30 minutes after the game? Hee hee! Can't wait for November. That's bound to be a fun game. Especially if the offensive line holds up for Tech.

Zuletzt: Will come up with rankings in a few weeks, after 4 or 5 games have been played.
