#3 in the land. Coming off a 51-7 win in conference. Travelling to Morgantown. 1999 or 2003 all over again?

College Football: Your (okay, my) Virginia Tech Hokies are undefeated to date, ranked #3 in both human polls, a pretty-much consensus top-3 team (along with USC & Texas), picked by some experts to reach the Rose Bowl. They beat a good - certainly not great, but good - conference opponent 51-7. So is it 2003? Maybe. But what about the fact that they just hammered, at home, a team ranked in the mid-teens? In a game televised in front of a (somewhat) national audience, and for which the ESPN Gameday crew visited? And with a quarterback named M. Vick? So does that make it 1999? (And, for the matter, does that make Georgia Tech the ACC analogue to Syracuse?) Guess we'll find out Saturday. Although the staff and some of the older guys certainly remember '03.

And what about this? Are you kidding me? And how about this:

Students celebrating victories by the Mountaineers have a long tradition of setting fires in the streets, often with cheap furniture dragged from their rental homes.

Morgantown led the nation in the number of intentional street fires between 1997 and 2003, with a total of 1,129 set.

They led the nation? Are you kidding me? They had even more than the couch burners in College Park? Hahahahaha!

So my pick. We'll split the difference (and call it 2001). 35-0, Tech. It's called Beamerball, and it's always in style!
